Phalombe-based renowned innovator Innocent Mandili has invented an Innovative cooking gadget called Thermo El Stove.
The stove can also be used for electricity production.
The 18-year-old told ProjectM in an interview that the gadget can help to mitigate environmental degradation if people adopt it.
“This gadget works by putting briquettes and a small amount of grass in the stove. When lit, the gadget starts producing electricity which is then stored in a power bank for future use,” Mandili said.
Mandili said he got inspired by people’s lack of alternative cooking solution particularly in his home district of Phalombe.
“I observed that my home district lacked reliable sources of energy despite being connected to the national grid and I decided to explore ways that can help to ease this,” said Mandili.
He uses raw materials such as scrap metals, radio boards, batteries and bulbs.
The materials are carefully put together to start producing energy for cooking, lighting and charging gadgets.
“This stove can produce up to 8 volts which means it can also power household appliances or even water pumps,” he added.
His invention has already received a nod from President Lazarus Chakwera who witnessed it’s potential during the commemoration of World Creativity and Innovation day which was commemorated on the 30th of April 2024.
