DAPP DONATES CLOTHES TO 850 HOUSEHOLDS IN NSANJE

The Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) has donated 7500 kg of clothes to 850 families who have relocated to upper lands from the flood-prone areas in Nsanje.

The value of the donation done on Saturday at Bangula Admarc in the district was not established.

Speaking to ProjectM, Public Relations Officer for DAPP Patrick Jafali said the support came from HUMANA Germany in collaboration with the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA). The donation has be distributed to four villages.

“We have already reached out to flood survivors in Karonga and Nkhotakota districts and now we are here in Nsanje,” said the PRO.

Chairperson for Area Civil Protection Committee (ACPC) for Traditional Authority Mbenje, Stella Dave, has hailed the organisation for the donation.

She said the survivors have lost properties, including clothes, as such they received will help them.

But Dave said communities in the new locations have no food, saying some are depending on piece works to raise money to buy food.

“Food is the major challenge affecting people in their areas,” she said.

On the other hand, Village Headman Tchereni thanked DAPP for bailing them out with clothes.

He has warned the beneficiaries not to sell the clothes, saying it will not have a good impression on the donors.

“Let us make use of what we have been given rather than selling the clothes,” said the traditional leader.
