The Copyright Fund under the Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA) has urged artists and content creators in the country to invest in research and training for the industry to grow.
The appeal comes as the fund is in the process of receiving proposals from artists and creators who would like to receive grants disbursed under the Copyright Fund.
Copyright Fund manager Blessings Gift Botha has since underlined the need for creators to embrace innovation in a bid to survive in what he has described as a very competitive industry.
“The Copyright Fund is there to award grants to creative and cultural sector to maximize opportunities for arts and cultural practitioners,” Botha said.
Among others, Botha said those who will be awarded grants in this year’s program will be required to start creative projects, demonstrate and develop their talents.
“Those hoping to stand a chance of being awarded the grant have up to the 13th of June 2024 and the fund is placing all it’s hopes in them to preserve, promote and grow the sector,’ said Botha.
To be eligible for the grant, applicants must be Malawians, an incorporated company or an organization duly registered under the laws of Malawi, just to mention a few.
Those operating in the copyright and creative sector are also encouraged to apply.
Philip Mwatiwamba Banda, station manager for Nkhoma Synod Radio in Lilongwe has since expressed interest to apply, saying his organization has all it takes to uplift the creative industry.
