PEANUT BUTTER MAKER APPLAUDS TOURISM EXPO

Elizabeth Mwamadi, owner of a Lilongwe-based Nojo Trading, a small-scale company that makes peanut butter, has described the Takulandirani Tourism Expo as a game changer to the country’s locally made products.

Mwamadi, who started making peanut butter last year told ProjectM that the drive to reduce the country’s imports is what moved her to establish her own businesses.

“Malawi is rich in everything, if well utilised we can reduce that number of goods that are imported in the country and with the issue of forex scarcity, prices have escalated on the market. However, if we produce things locally this will not be an issue”, she explained.

Mwamadi said through her business she also wanted to find a market for farmers that are into groundnuts farming.

“I started my business with a 50kg bag of maize because I wanted to add value to what is cultivated locally. Through my business I support a lot of farmers that supply their groundnuts”, she said.

With her small-scale business, Mwamadi can also boast of creating job opportunities for others.

“I have 9 people, who are fully employed and this is what the government has been advocating. I am happy that I have achieved this. I am hoping to create more job opportunities for more people.

With good response from her customers, Mwamadi is able to supply in super markets even as far as Mzuzu and Zomba.
