ILLOVO SUGAR COMPANY DONATES K439.7M MAIZE FLOUR

Illovo Sugar Company has embarked on a 16,000 bags of maize flour distribution exercise to families in Chikwawa District worth K439.7 million.

General Manager for Illovo Estate’s Nchalo Estate Ricky Pillay said the distribution will benefit people surrounding Nchalo Estates in the area of Paramount Chief Lundu and other areas in the district which have been hit by drought.

He said his company decided to assist the communities who have been affected because they are concerned with their plight.

Pillay also said the company is aware that the access to the basic needs such as food is the fundamental human right.

“As a company we are concerned about the communities’ welfare hence the distribution of maize flour,” said the General Manager.

Earlier, Paramount Chief Lundu said the food distribution has come at the right time when his area is affected by dry spell.

He has since thanked the company for coming to the rescue of the communities.

“The donation is going to help us in addressing the hunger situation which is at its climax,” said the Paramount Chief.

One of the beneficiaries Mary Binzi said the flour she has received is going to help her as she had nothing to eat at home.

The 16,000 bags of maize each weigh 25 kilogramme. Each household gets a 25 kg bag.
