YOUNG FEMALE ELECTRICIAN DARES MALE-DOMINATED FIELD

The myth that girls cannot do some tasks which are reserved for male folks, has been defied by a young woman Modesta Mwale.

Mwale owns a company known as Vision Solar and Electrical Services which is situated in area 25 in Lilongwe.

She studied electrical at Don Bosco Youth Technical Institute and after exploring her skills with the knowledge imparted, she started the company which is making it strides in Lilongwe and other districts.

“Mwale is particularly keen on inspiring and empowering fellow women technicians. She encourages them not to underestimate their abilities, underlining that they too can successfully manage and lead their own companies. Currently, the company has proved to be a turning point through the commitment and dedication that has attracted clients due to the exceptional work delivered.” Reads the Youth Don Bosco Inspiring Story Facebook page.

However, despite the success, devaluation of the kwacha is one of the factors affecting the company’s vision but was quick to express optimism on the progress and fulfilment of the vision.

Meanwhile, a Tsangano-based entrepreneur has encouraged youths in the country, especially females to maximise their technical skills in the development of the nation.

Zalira, who is also a lecturer in Plumbing at Tete Tertiary Institution and maintains old and damaged motorcycles, said she always feel encouraged by ladies who are considering technical skills as the bases of their work.

“I would like to urge all girls to take a leading role in empowering themselves through technical skills that is the muscle of self-employment. Self-employment should be prioritised as apart from sustaining yourself, you also empower others by employing them and transferring the skills, thereby developing the country,” she said.

The Malawi government has earmarked technical vocational skills for the youth to embrace for them to  be self-reliant and employ others.
