At least six households at New road in Zomba, are now enjoying a 24-hour electrical power supply by a fuel less generator which was recently developed by a fourth year student of the University of Malawi, Enock Kachokola.
When ProjectM visited the area two months ago, it was established that this new technology is more environmental friendly as it does not produce smoke while in operation.
Kachokola, who is pursuing Bachelor’s degree in Science in Electronics from the University of Malawi, told ProjectM that with an upgrade from the previous machine the following gadgets such as electric cooker, refrigerators, TVs, microwave oven can be used.
“This new source of power is completely safe, free, efficient, durable and with no risk of running out of electrical power as it can provide a more effective way of addressing frequent power interruptions in the country,” he said.
While appealing to people of goodwill, companies and others to assist him, Kachokola said his interest is to do mass production adding that those willing to have access to the machine can buy it at an affordable price.
“I need more support to produce a lot of these fuelless generators which can be used in offices, homes and elsewhere without using fuel. The knowledge and talent which I have is for the community and Malawians at large; hence, the need to support this project,” he said Kachokola.
He said if his project is fully funded, it will also create more job opportunities among people of this country, particularly the youths.
According to Mrs Ellen Ndazi, who is doing printing and photocopying business, at Mpunga said if this project comes into effect, it will cushion challenges young entrepreneurs face in the area.
Kachokola’s noiseless generator was assembled in March, 2023 at a time the country experienced continuous power blackouts due to devastating effects of Cyclone Freddy.
